(New) Lt Gen Asim Munir Retirement Date: Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister of Pakistan, met with his elder brother, Nawaz Sharif, the leader of the PML-N and three-term prime minister, in London and spoke with him about matters pertaining to the choice of the new Pakistan Army chief, according to reports on Friday evening.

Lieutenant General Syed Asim Munir is the senior officer after outgoing Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa and is currently serving as Quartermaster General in the Pakistan Army.

Lt-Gen Munir entered the service via the Officers Training School (OTS) program in Mangla and was commissioned into the 23rd Battalion of the Frontier Force Regiment.

Lieutenant General Asim Munir is the senior-most of the six lieutenant generals set to feature in a summary set to be sent to the prime minister for the military top post and is currently serving as Quarter Master General at the GHQHe was originally slated to retire in September 2022. He will, however, now retire in November 2022 on account of being on leave for some time following his promotion as a lieutenant general.
