The decision to alter the passing requirements for science disciplines was made during an IBCC meeting held in Islamabad.

What Include in New Passing Criteria for Science Subjects?

The Inter-Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) has decided that students must now obtain an overall score of 66 out of 200 to pass each science subject in the annual exams. This is different from the previous criteria of obtaining 33% in both theoretical and practical tests to pass scientific disciplines.

The chairs of the province’s nine intermediate and secondary education boards came together to address the issue of an increased number of students failing science courses. The committee looked into the grading system for science-related subjects due to the high percentage of failures across all boards.

Previously, students had to pass both the theory and practical exams separately, and many students who did well in theory exams failed due to poor performance in the practical ones.

With the revised requirements, students will only need to achieve a total of 66 marks in both exams of a science subject to pass the matriculation or intermediate level, even if they fail the practical test.

Moreover, due to the scorching hot weather in summer, the matriculation and intermediate examinations will begin in March. These changes are intended to strengthen the education system of Punjab and provide more opportunities for students to excel in their academic pursuits.
