The History Of The Martyrdom Of Fatima

The youngest daughter and the only child of the prophet Muhammad who lived to adulthood was Fatimah bin Muhammad. She was born to Khadija, the first of Muhammad’s wives, and she would become the wife of Ali, Muhammad’s cousin. She would become the mother of the second and third Imams, Hussain and Hasan.

Six months after the death of Muhammad on 3 Jumada al-Thani in 632, Fatimah died. It’s believed that her death came from injuries that were sustained when her house was raided by the second caliph of the Rashidun Caliphate, Umar ibn al-Khattab. In 2000, the Martyrdom of Fatima was made an official holiday 2000, although it’s been celebrated in an unofficial capacity for many centuries before that date.
