Amid the worsening air quality, Lahore High Court on Dec Tuesday ordered the authorities to extend Punjab winter vacation 2023 for another week in the capital Lahore. As per sources, the winter vacations for schools are likely to be extended for one more week (January 9 to 15) on the demand of the parents over cold weather, the sources said.
Now with the effect of the new notification, all public and private colleges which are under Higher Education Department Punjab are closed till 15th January 2023.

The notification says that In continuation of the Department’s Notification of even number dated 23-12-2022, it is hereby notified that in all the Higher Education Institutions (FIEDs) both Public and Private under the jurisdiction of Higher Education Department Punjab Winter vacations are hereby extended w.e.f 09-01-2023 to 15-01-2023.
All Colleges (Public and Private) shall re-open on Monday, 9. January 2023 resuming a full/normal week for all classes.
Justice Shahid Kareem heard a petition on anti-smog measures and directed the educational institutions to extend winter holidays for 2022 23. The judge also directed officials to issue a notification in this regard in compliance with the court order.
Winter Vacation in Pakistan 2023
The member judicial commission apprised the Lahore court that he informed the education department as per the directions of the court but the department has not issued a notification of Winter Vacation Extended in Punjab 2022 regarding an extension so far.

Last week, Azhar Siddiqui pleaded with the court to order for extension of the winter vacations till the second week of January. After arguments, the court directed the Members Judicial Commission to talk to the Education Department about extending holidays.
Winter Vacation Extended in Punjab 2023
Initially, Punjab School Education Department announced winter vacations for all state-run and private schools across the province from December 24 to December 31 which is now Extended from January 9 to January 15.
