The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has declared that schools and colleges will be closed until Saturday (13 May 2023) due to the current law and order situation in the country.
The announcement of several holidays was made following protests that erupted throughout the country after the arrest of former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman, Imran Khan, from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) by Rangers personnel, who acted on the instructions of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
Rehmat Salam, KP’s Education Advisor, explained that both public and private schools and colleges will remain closed until Saturday (13 May 2023), and all examinations will be canceled to ensure the safety and security of the students, considering the ongoing riots and protests across the country.

The decision to close schools and colleges was taken in the best interest of students, as the current law and order situation remains volatile across the country. Additionally, under Section 245, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has called in the Pakistan Army to assist with maintaining law and order in the province.
